What is the most important decision you've made in your life and why?

Staying. This was the most important, the hardest decision I've ever made in my life.

A few months ago I had quite made up my mind to leave Wragby Hall, to go to Canada. My brother lives there and he says that a hard-working man can make a good living for himself there.
A new life, a free life..

I couldn't bear to stay here and watch Her Ladyship go on without me in her life, and I couldn't bear to remain in her life at her terms.

I really wanted to leave...

Then the wood closed around me, talked to me, soothed my pain.
I saw everything turn green and lush again and I knew I had a new life already, here in my wood, and that everything would be all right, love would come again to me. And it did.

And the thought that if I'd taken a different decision, if I had left, I wouldn't have met him is just too horrible for me to even contemplate.
